After doing a Mothers Day family portrait shoot for a friend at the Westin Ka’anapali, I met up with my wife and some friends from the Bay Area who happened to be staying there.
We wandered over to the Hula Grill in Whaler’s Village, I put my name in for a table, and as we were ordering drinks at the bar, I looked up at the sunset and saw the sky flaring up in shades of orange (gotta love the vog for sunsets when it’s not too thick).
Then I saw the sailboat and the composition came together right there, in front of me. Luckily, I happened to have my gear with me, thanks to the shoot.
“f/8 and be there”, as the saying goes among photographers. It was f/16 in this case, but you can’t beat this for being in the right place at the right time.
Aloha…
