Kaupo Church Panorama

by Peter Liu on August 25, 2010

I make a point of going on a photowalk of some kind on my birthday (though sometimes it’s a photodive). I turned 50 a couple of month ago and went for a drive out to Kaupo, but haven’t had time to do anything with the photos until now.

Here’s a panorama of the Kaupo church. I don’t normally shoot landscapes at the height of the day like this, but the colors were striking and I loved the different shades in the water. Now all I need is some wall space.

Longfin Anthias (Pseudanthias hawaiiensis), Garden Eel Cove, Kona, Hawaii.

My wife and I went on a scuba diving vacation in Kona a couple of months ago. We used to do this kind of thing at least once a year, but recently, life has gotten in the way and we haven’t been able to find the opportunity as often. With my social media consulting practice [...]

Just Another Aloha Friday Sunset

July 9, 2010
Sunset, Keawakapu Beach, Maui, Hawaii

Last Friday, I took a couple of friends from the mainland with me to shoot the sunset. On the way to Makena Cove, it started raining, so I turned the car around and headed toward North Kihei. We set up and started shooting, but then the clouds decided to follow us and we got sprinkled [...]

Water Play At Sunset, Makena Cove

Water play at Makena Cove during sunset, Maui, Hawaii

There’s something about Makena Cove that lends itself to slow shutter shooting. Every time I go there, I have the urge to capture the movement of the water as it ebbs and flows. Yesterday evening, I was there with my friend Meliezza Walker, who was visiting from Texas. She’s a portrait shooter but wanted to [...]

Liza Pierce (@AMauiBlog), author of AMauiBlog.com

Recently, my friend Liza Pierce (@AMauiBlog) and I were asked for headshots for an upcoming social media “Tech Talk” we’re scheduled to do later this week. When Liza replied she didn’t really have one, I had to intervene. Friends don’t let friends go without headshots, especially on Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day to all the [...]

Importing Camera To iPad To Lightroom

Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit

When I ordered my 64GB iPad, my intention was to see if I could use it as a 90% laptop replacement. I’ve been using the Google cloud for my productivity more and more lately, so I’m really just down to the apps I need for photography, namely Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and presentations (though my [...]

Lightroom Camera Calibration And User Presets

April 28, 2010
South Maui Sunset, Maui, Hawaii.

One of the lesser known features in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is Camera Calibration in the Develop module. Different camera sensors render color differently. Camera Calibration was developed to enable photographers to adjust the white balance, hue and saturation to “calibrate” the image so it matches more closely with what they intended when it was originally [...]

Tiny Praying Mantis

Juvenile Praying Mantiz

My wife came in from the garden this morning, poked her head in my home office and said, “Hey, there’s a baby praying mantis on the chile plant. Interested?” Earlier this month, I’d purchased a set of extension tubes and badly needed practice using them, so I dropped what I was doing, grabbed the camera, [...]
